New data from the BC CDC shows there were just 33 new COVID-19 cases in the Kamloops local health area during the week of May 2 and May 8 for a test positivity rate between 2.1 and 3 per cent.
That is down from the 57 cases reported the week prior from April 25 to May 1 in the area that includes the City of Kamloops as well as Barriere, Sun Peaks, Little Fort, Chase, Tobiano, Savona, and Logan Lake.
The Kelowna-area continues to see the highest number of cases in the Thompson-Okanagan region with 162 new cases week, though it is down from the 174 cases the week before.
In the Golden area, there continues to be an average daily rate of 20 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people. There were another 12 cases reported there last week, after 16 and 15 cases in the two preceding weeks. Golden, Rutland in Kelowna, and Summerland continue to be high-transmission neighbourhoods in Interior Health, though Summerland saw just four new cases last week.
Other local health areas around Kamloops saw fewer new COVID-19 cases last week, including Salmon Arm which had nine cases for the second straight week, while Vernon had 22, down from 25.
There was one new case in the Merritt and 100 Mile local health areas, while the Cariboo/Chilcotin and Lillooet areas had two cases each. There were zero cases in the North Thompson, and South Cariboo local health areas.
The majority of new cases in B.C. continues to be in the Lower Mainland, with several local health areas there recording more than 15 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people last week. The situation there is gradually improving week-over-week, as more people get vaccinated.
In the Kamloops area, new data released shows between 41 and 60 per cent of all adults have gotten their first dose of a COVID vaccine. Data also shows between 61 and 80 per cent of adults older than 55 have gotten their first dose of the vaccine.
