RCMP say the two Kamloops brothers found dead last week near Naramata were killed.
The bodies of 29-year-old Erick Fryer and 31-year-old Carlo Fryer were found on a forest road on May 10 just outside of Naramata. Police did not speak to their identities until today, but the Fryer family had confirmed to NL News afterwards that Erick and Carlo were the two men found.
Today, police say their deaths were unexpected and that their deaths are being investigated as homicides.
An autopsy had been done on their bodies yesterday.
Acting Officer in Charge of the RCMP Major Crime Unit, Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon, says Mounties are continuing to look for a suspect, or suspects, who are responsible. Wijayakoon says the Major Crime Unit will continue to be in the Penticton area investigating throughout this week.
“Major crime investigators remain open to all possibilities in this homicide case, and renew their call for anyone with any information to come forward immediately,” a police news release today says. It adds there’s no indication this incident was linked to ongoing gang violence in the Lower Mainland, and says this was an isolated incident and was not random.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether the two Fryer brothers were killed in the location they were found. Police have said one vehicle was towed from near the crime scene after the bodies were found, but have not said why. A second vehicle was also believed to have been towed from the area, but police have not acknowledged that to date.
In a statement sent to NL News last week, the Fryer family said they were devastated by the tragic losses.
“Carlo and Erick Fryer were beloved family members. Erick was kind, generous, athletic and the first person to help his family and friends. He was the big brother that all his siblings wanted to hang out with. He was a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew and solid friend,” the statement said.” Carlo was sweet, gentle and an all-star ball player. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father. He was a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew and solid friend.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Carlo’s spouse and daughter, which at time of posting has raised close to $15,000. The page can be found here.
