A small wildfire burning north of Cache Creek is now being held.
The Pioneer Creek fire, burning near Highway 97 and Cody Road, is mapped at 4.5 hectares in size. A photo from Tuesday showed the blaze burning close to nearby structures, but burning up a grassy hillside.
BC Wildfire Service information officer Taylor MacDonald says no structures are being threatened.
The fire was first reported late Tuesday afternoon, and the wildfire service had 23 firefighting personnel at its initial response. MacDonald says seven personnel were on scene today.
A cause of the fire is not known; MacDonald says it is currently listed as “undetermined.”
Wildfire activity is minimal in B.C. this morning, with only three fires listed as active, burning less than five hectares of land combined.
After a few days of wet weather, the fire danger rating is low-to-moderate in much of the Kamloops area, however hot and dry weather is expected to dominate the forecast for the upcoming week.
