The Kamloops Blazers have secured one of two potential European imports on the roster for the 2021-22 season.
Viktor Persson, a seventh round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2020 NHL draft, appears to be heading to the Tournament Capital.
The 20-year-old defenceman will be a two-spotter as he will be an overage player.
“We’ve had good discussions with Viktor and his representation and he’s committed to the organization. He was supposed to come over last season but couldn’t due to the pandemic,” Blazers General Manager Matt Bardsley said.
“We believe he’ll be a good player. He likes to activate into the rush, likes to play an offensive game. He also has a physical component. He’ll be an all-around two-way player for the team.”
The Blazers drafted Persson 56th overall in the 2020 WHL import draft. He played Junior U-20 hockey with Brynas and played four games with Brynas of the SHL – the highest pro level in Sweden.
Persson was also loaned to Stromsbro of HockeyEttan – a third tier professional league where he played 11 games.
The Blazers will still make two selections in the June 30 CHL Import Draft. They will pick 38 overall in the first round, and 89th overall in the second round.
Not the first time Viktor Persson scores this type of goal. I have talked about him before and will do it again. Kid’s got a lot of potential and it’s just sad to see that @Brynas doesn’t give him a real chance in SHL.. #ViktorPersson #Vancouver #Brynas #Stromsbro pic.twitter.com/Gy64Q6P6pC
