The Anglican Church of Canada says its Bishop based in Kamloops has resigned after sexual misconduct allegations.
Lincoln Mckoen left the ministry on June 10 after allegations of “inappropriate sexualized electronic communications” with someone whom he had a pastoral relationship were made on May 27.
Based at the St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral on Nicola Street in downtown Kamloops, Mckoen was appointed nine months ago as the bishop of the Territory of the People in the B.C. Interior. That region covers parishes between Merritt and Prince George, including two in Kamloops.
In a statement, archbishop Linda Nicholls says Mckoen acknowledges that “the allegations are well founded.” She says the allegations are that he sent images to an adult who lived outside of his area of work.
Nicholls says a temporary steering committee has been put in place in the absence of a top bishop in this area.
“The diocese now enters a time of grieving and discernment about its future episcopal leadership. Please join them in prayer,” Nicholls added.
