UPDATED: 1:05 p.m.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has evacuated six more homes because of the Sparks Lake wildfire and put more than 100 others on evacuation alert.
The new order came into place just before noon, and affects homes between 2932 and 2964 Sabiston Creek Forest Service Road, which borders on Sabiston Lake. Evacuees are able to register with Emergency Social Services in Kamloops at the McArthur Island Events Centre, and can find more information from the TNRD by clicking here.
This means 169 properties within the TNRD are now evacuated by the wildfire; an unconfirmed number of other properties within the Skeetchestn Indian Band were also evacuated Friday night.
Meanwhile, just after 1 p.m., the TNRD also issued an evacuation alert for 119 properties, extending from Savona Dump road in the west to Frederick Road in the east. Details on that alert can be found here.
The Sparks Lake fire is the largest burning in B.C. right now, at 36,300 hectares. The new size estimate this morning is up from 31,000 hectares on Saturday.
The fire started six days ago and was human-caused, although a specific cause has not been determined.
Growth this weekend on the blaze has been at its southwest flank, towards Skeetchestn and other areas. In an update on Saturday, TNRD staff and officials with the BC Wildfire Service said growth right now has slowed down on other areas of the fire.
