There were an average of just under 100 new COVID-19 cases per day in Interior Health over the B.C. Day long weekend.
IH reported 395 new cases between July 31 and August 3, which was more than half of the 742 new cases reported across B.C. in that time.
Elsewhere, there were 165 cases new COVID-19 cases in Fraser Health on the long weekend, as well as 115 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 42 in Island Health, 24 in Northern Health and one among out-of-province residents.
Active cases of COVID-19 have doubled in the past seven days; there are now 1,544 active cases across the province compared to 783 on July 27.
There has also been one new death from the virus over the past four days, which was a person in the Vancouver Coastal Health area.
Hospitalizations have now risen by 20 per cent in the past seven days, although the sample size is smaller. There are now 53 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 19 people in intensive care, compared to 44 people in hospital and 22 in ICU a week ago.
For COVID-19 vaccines, 81.4 per cent of people 12 and older have received a first dose, while 67.3 per cent are fully vaccinated. There were 128,063 vaccine doses administered over the long weekend, meaning there have now been 6,902,320 doses that have gone out in B.C.
