UPDATE: 3:50 p.m.
A pursuit after a robbery in downtown Kamloops ended with a van catching fire in Riverside Park and three people being arrested.
Kamloops RCMP were made aware of the robbery at 10:45 a.m. at a business in the 1300-block of Battle Street. So far, it’s unclear exactly what business was involved or what might’ve been stolen.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the suspect vehicle had apparently been involved in two accidents, before it was found on fire in Riverside Park. Kamloops Fire Rescue quickly put out the flames, Evelyn says; a cause for the fire is unknown.
NL News saw the blue, older-model Plymouth Voyager with smoke coming from the hood in the parking lot by the tennis courts, where it was surrounded by police cruisers and a fire truck. Several police cruisers were also parked on the grass within Riverside Park.
Evelyn says two suspects were arrested near the washrooms in Riverside Park, and a third person was later arrested near the Overlanders Bridge.
Anyone with information about the robbery or the fire is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-26688.
