For the second straight day, B.C. is reporting more that 400 new COVID-19 cases.
There were 464 new cases reported today, 275 of which were in Interior Health, with the majority of new cases being driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant.
The were another 72 cases in Fraser Health, 60 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 29 in Northern Health, and 27 in Island Health.
Active COVID cases in B.C. are at 2,411 people, with 52 in hospital, 24 in intensive care.
Around 95 per cent of COVID-19 patients in hospital in B.C. as of Friday had not been vaccinated or had received only one dose. None of the patients in intensive care were vaccinated, according to Health Minister Adrian Dix.
Of the 2,411 active cases in B.C., 1,356 are in Interior Health, 486 are in Fraser Health, 324 are in Vancouver Coastal Health, 145 are in Island Health and 88 are in Northern Health.
A majority of the new cases in the Interior – and in B.C. – are in the Central Okanagan, where even more restrictions were put in place today.
Since December 2020, the Province has administered 6,993,104 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. It says there have been 81.8 per cent of eligible people 12 and older who have gotten their first dose of a COVID vaccine, while 68.9 per cent of people are fully vaccinated.
Pop-up vaccine clinic coming to Northills Mall in Kamloops
Interior Health is hosting a five day drop-in vaccine clinic at the Northills Mall food court in Kamloops for people who have not yet received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, or for people who received their first dose more than seven weeks [49 days] ago.
It will be open to people born in 2009 or earlier as follows:
- August 10 from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm
- August 12 from 10:30 am – 5:30 pm
- August 16 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
- August 18 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
- August 20 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
As has been the case, people can also choose to get their first or second dose of a COVID vaccine by making an appointment online, by phone at 1‑833‑838‑2323, or at a Service BC office.
