The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has lifted an evacuation order for 65 properties in the Tunkwa Lake area, southwest of Kamloops.
The properties are on Guichon Creek Forest Service Road, Haywood-Farmer Road, and Tunkwa Lake Road, and they remain on evacuation alert at this time, with an evacuation order remaining in place for one property at 4445 Greenstone Road.
Residents in the properties that are on alert are being told to be ready to leave on very short notice, should the situation worsen.
Earlier in the day, the District of Logan Lake also rescinded its evacuation alert because of the Tremont Creek Fire, less than a week after the evacuation order was downgraded.
No homes in the community were destroyed, but people are being told to not enter the forest Logan Lake because of hot spots and deadfall.
As of this afternoon, the Tremont Creek wildfire is listed at 63,523 hectares – about 635 square kilometres in size, and its still burning out of control.
The BC Wildfire Service says some additional fire-line resources are expected over the next few days. It notes crews are making quick work in some areas though there are others that require more time and attention.
“Direct attack is being utilized in Glossy Mountain area with four crews are working in the Forge Creek area, south of Tunkwa Lake. Crews are working from the south-east corner towards established guard in the Dairy and Durand Lakes area,” the BCWS said.
“In the Dairy Lake break area, crews are working around the head of the fire, finding, and exposing hot spots and using hose lay as water sources are available.”
It also says in the north, crews are working in the Jimmie’s Creek and Penny Forest Service Road area, while on the south flank, crews are continuing to mop up and patrol along the Logan Lake guard.
The BCWS also says with the cooler, wetter weather, structure protection is being removed in areas no longer considered to be at risk.
