A program to offer money to people in Lytton who lost their homes has now been expanded to include households from any community who have lost their homes to wildfires this summer.
The B.C. government says a one-time, $2,000-dollar payment is available for families whose home have been “severely affected” by wildfire. It says those homes have to be their primary residence.
The funding is available through the Red Cross, and to access that money people are told to call and register, at 1-800-863-6582, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
This new funding stream comes as people who lost their home in Lytton already had access to a one-time, $2,000-dollar payment, and any household that has been evacuated for 10 days or longer by wildfire can also access $1,200. That money is also available through the Red Cross, and eligible residents can call the same number to access it.
As of Tuesday, the Canadian Red Cross says 2,100 households have received financial assistance related to wildfires.
