Kamloops RCMP say the Mayor’s Chain of Office has not yet been found after a break-in at City Hall last Friday, Sept. 10.
It was the second break-in at City Hall in three days, though RCMP say a 37-year-old man is in custody after a break-in around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
RCMP Superintendent, Sydney Lecky, says a number of electronic devices were returned to City Hall yesterday after a City employee saw a man leave the building with a duffle bag and two laptop bags.
“In this case, the employee’s efforts and actions allowed for police to quickly locate and apprehend a suspect known to police, as well as retrieve a significant amount of City property,” Lecky said, noting the suspect was found in a nearby alleyway.
“The Mayor’s Chain of Office is unique and a significant piece of Kamloops history. We are asking residents to please be on the lookout for the chain. We would appreciate any help the public can provide in assisting with its safe return.”
At this time, it is not known if both these break-ins are related with police saying they are continuing to investigate.
