Kamloops native Logan Stankoven has signed a three-year NHL entry level contact with the Dallas Stars.
Stankoven, 18, was drafted by the Stars 47th overall in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
In ten games with the Blazers this past season, Stankoven put up seven goals and three assists for 10 points – giving him a total of 59 points (36 goals and 23 assists) in 73 career WHL games.
He also appeared in six WHL postseason games in 2019, recording two points (one goal and one assist).
“That’s great to hear. I think he’s an incredible talent…somebody that shoots the puck as well as anybody I’ve seen in junior hockey and has a motor that goes with that,” Blazers co-owner Shane Doan told NL Sports.
“I think not getting to play the whole year, last year, you’re going to see some guys step up. Obviously, Logan’s a huge part of it. I love the fact that he’s a local boy. The fact that he’s part of the fabric of Kamloops, I think that’s special.”
Stankoven also scored four goals and four assists in seven games – including the game winning goal in the gold medal game – at the 2021 U-18 World Championships in Texas.
He also took part in his first National Junior Team summer development camp with an eye towards cracking the 2022 World Juniors roster.
