The landlord of a missing Kamloops woman says there was nothing unusual before his tenant disappeared.
Matt Hatch says he saw 32-year-old Shannon White turn out of their cul-de-sac on Bestwick Court in Sahali towards her work, at the same time as normal every weekday morning.
“She left the same as every other day. I saw her drive away and turn the direction she’s supposed to turn. She had walked past my wife who was in her vehicle in the driveway, as she does all the time. It was nothing different,” Hatch said, pausing. “And then this.”
Hatch says he’s known Shannon for about two years from when they used to work together at the Kamloops Hyundai dealership.
“Basically about a year ago I bought a new house that had a basement suite, and I just asked a few people who we work with what they thought of her. And they all told me she’s the nicest person they’ve ever met, and that I’d be lucky to have her as a tenant. And she had a big, huge, fluffy dog that my daughters love. And it just worked out well. And we’ve had zero, zero, zero issues.”
Hatch says their home is less than five minutes from Shannon’s work. But she never showed up for work last Monday and her Jeep was found downtown the following day, on Nicola Street near 2nd Avenue.
“In six blocks, she must’ve turned downtown. Just the direction her vehicle was (parked) in, you’d have to loop around, because you come off the one-way street from the hospital down 3rd Avenue. It just doesn’t make sense.
“It’s like we’re stuck in a horrible movie that we didn’t want to be in.”
Hatch has been in constant contact with police, and says police have been in the basement suite for hours at a time in recent days.
The Kamloops RCMP Major Crime Unit is also now involved in the investigation. “She is still missing and we are still asking the public for help,” Const. Crystal Evelyn told NL News this morning.
Police have also asked the public to keep an eye out for a pink flower that usually sits above Shannon’s spare tire (pictured below). The flower was missing when the Jeep was found.
Hatch is pleading for anyone in Sahali or downtown with surveillance cameras to check their footage from between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 1. “It will take 30 minutes. She’s in a Jeep, very recognizable. Please do it.”
