A pair of Kamloops Blazers have been invited to Hockey Canada’s selection camp for the 2022 Canadian World Junior Hockey team.
Goaltender Dylan Garand and forward Logan Stankoven will participate in the camp which will be held in Calgary from Dec. 9 to 12.
The 19-year-old Garand, a New York Rangers draft pick, is one of three returning players who won silver with the 2021 World Junior team. He is also one of three goalies at the tournament joining Edmonton’s Sebastian Cossa and London’s Brett Brochu.
Stankoven, 18, will be part of World Junior selection camp for the first time though he has donned the Canadian jersey before, most recently at the 2021 U18 World Hockey Championships in Texas where he scored the gold-medal winning goal in a 4-3 win over Russia.
The Kamloops native was also a part of Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp in July and August this year.
A draft pick of the Dallas Stars, Stankoven was recently named Blazers co-captain for the 2021-22 season.
Players will leave their team in just over a week to head to camp. The World Juniors will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
