A new contest open only to current Thompson Rivers University students, will give one creative student the chance to win $500$ by designing a Solar Panel Table.
The aim of the contest – which runs until Feb. 28 – is to make outdoor spaces a place for students to continue to learn, study, and socialize, while promoting renewable energy.
In addition to the prize money, the winning table will be constructed and set up permanently on the TRU grounds.
Those who wish to participate are encouraged to design a unique, stylish, and functional table that must include charging stations, and accommodating seating.
The minimum requirements of the solar table are:
– Charge devices (e.g. phones, laptops, motion-sensing internal or external lights, electric bike, etc.).
– Accommodate seating of at least six (6) people for studying or hanging out. Solar panels attached to a roof structure to cover the table and seating is desirable.
– Show awareness of TRU’s advocacy for sustainability.
– Practical enough to be constructed (use of sustainable, reclaimed, recycled, and readily available materials are highly encouraged).
