For the rest of this week, Kamloops Fire and Rescue will be using a vacant house on Battle Street to train firefighters during daylight hours.
Firefighters will be on scene from today, Feb. 15 until Friday, Feb. 18, at the house, which is set to be demolished to make way for the massive City Gardens project.
“[We] want to thank The Kelson Group for allowing us to use one of their buildings for training,” a statement from KFR said. “[Asst.] Chief [Ryan] Cail, and Bud from The Kelson group, worked behind the scenes and made it happen. Stay tuned for some great footage!”
Kelson Group Vice President, Kelly Fawcett, said firefighters reached out to see if they can use the houses to train.
“We understand they will be using smoke bombs and conducting their training drills in the Battle Street home throughout the week,” she said.
“Due to the presence of the fire department and “smoke” on site, we wanted to be proactive and make the media and community aware that these practice drills will be occurring.”
Construction of the new City Gardens project is set to begin this spring.
