RCMP in Lillooet say one person has died after a house fire earlier this week.
In a statement Friday morning, Const. Andrew Hodges of the Lillooet RCMP says police were called to a house fire in the area of Texas Creek Road and Mitchell Road, around 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Firefighters were already on scene, with Hodges saying they fought the blaze through the night into the next morning.
He notes the victim was found yesterday, Feb. 17, adding the BC Coroner Services was called to assist police and firefighters in their investigation. The victim has been ‘tentatively identified’ but the identity and cause of death will be confirmed through an autopsy.
“The outcome of this incident is incredibly tragic. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” Hodges said. “Our thoughts are also with our first responder family and others impacted by this tragedy.”
It is not clear what caused the fire, but Hodges says is not believed to be criminal in nature or suspicious.
