A heads up to drivers and pedestrians downtown as the City of Kamloops will be replacing a sewer main line, starting in a couple of weeks.
Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell tells NL News crews will be working along Fourth Avenue between Columbia and Battle streets, as well as on Battle Street between Third and Fourth avenues.
“We’re removing the sewer main and replacing it with a larger main. It is growth related with the hospital and other development in that area,” he said.
“It will cause some impacts for sure, we are aware of that. We’re going to try and do our best with the communication and we’re getting that out there right now because like I said, we’re about two weeks away from starting.”
He says residents in the area will have access to their homes while work is underway.
“It’ll be an impact for sure, but we are fortunate there that there are quite a few ways around that project…anything in the downtown core, we are sensitive to,” Crundwell added.
“There are other bigger projects that are starting right in that area as well, like the City Gardens development. We want to get out in front of that so that we are not trying to do construction in that area at the same time.”
Crundwell says this sewer replacement work will take about six weeks to complete, at a total project cost of $1.2 million.
