Todd Warnick has been named the new head coach of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team.
“This is an exciting day for the TRU WolfPack, and we are thrilled to welcome Todd and his family to the ‘Pack,” TRU Director of Athletics and Recreation Curtis Atkinson said.
“Todd thoroughly impressed us at each stage of the interview process and has a proven track record of success over an impressive career. He is a highly respected coach in the Canadian post-secondary system, and we are fortunate to have him as the leader of our women’s basketball program.
Warnick has spent the past 21 years as head coach at the college level, including the past 12 seasons as head coach of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks women’s basketball program.
Prior to joining NAIT, Warnick was head coach of the Concordia University of Edmonton from 2006-2009 where he led the Thunder to a ACAC Championship in 2007-08 and was named the ACAC Coach of the Year in 2006-07.
“My family and I are very excited to join the WolfPack and the TRU community,” said Warnick, who will be joined in Kamloops by his wife Tracie, as well as sons Nelson and Caleb.
“I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes, WolfPack staff as well as the outstanding basketball community in Kamloops.”
Warnick’s hiring comes after the WolfPack women’s team went 1-17 under interim Head Coach Ken Olynyk who was thrust into the role just before the start of the season after an abrupt parting of ways with Goran Nogic for reasons the University did not disclose at the time.
