The Kamloops Blazers are teasing a “special announcement” ahead of tomorrow night’s Game Five of the Western Conference Championship.
The organization says there will be some special guests on hand to deliver the news before puck drop, which is slated for 7 p.m.
The Blazers aren’t confirming any other details but they have been going through the process to try and land the 2023 Memorial Cup next May or June.
Decisions on who hosts the Memorial Cup are now made by the Canadian Hockey League.
Last Month, Blazers majority owner, Tom Gaglardi, said the hosts of the 2023 Memorial Cup could be announced “in a couple of weeks.”
“The City of Kamloops is engaged and so far, the City has been fantastic,” Gaglardi said during a Blazers broadcast on Radio NL. “They’re walking the talk in terms of how badly they want to see the Memorial Cup return.
“Everybody in the organization has their fingers and toes crossed that we’re going to win this thing and we’ll stay with it. The conversations are productive. They’ve positive and so we’re hoping for a great outcome.”
The Kamloops Blazers last hosted and won the Memorial Cup in 1995 – their third title in four seasons.
As for Friday’s game, the Blazers host the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Conference Championship, with the series tied at 2-2.
