UPDATE 9:10 p.m. – Kamloops RCMP have now issued an “all-clear” after shutting down a residential area of the North Shore early Wednesday afternoon.
“Please be advised that the majority of the police presence on the 100-block of Yew Street is now cleared and it is safe to return to the area,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn in a notification sent out 9pm on Wednesday evening.
“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
It’s not yet clear how the standoff played out.
However, social media posts suggests it may have ended with an incursion by ERT members, with multiple reports suggesting hearing “bangs” before the conclusion of the standoff, which reports suggest ended around 6 p.m.

Kamloops RCMP say the large police response on Yew Street on the North Shore came about after a report involving possible gunshots early Wednesday afternoon.
Evelyn says officers were called to the 100-block of Yew Street, just off Tranquille Road around 1:05 in the afternoon.
“Officers identified a residence believed to be associated with the suspected gunshots and established a presence,” she said. “The public was asked to please avoid the area, while nearby residents were requested to shelter in place.”
Evelyn says the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, the Police Dog team and other support teams were on scene as well.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is thankful to the public for its assistance during this ongoing situation,” Evelyn said.
She also told NL News it is “too early to even speculate” if this incident is related to a report of multiple gunshots fired and large police presence in Dallas Tuesday night.
