The next Kamloops Y Dream Home will be in Juniper Ridge.
A construction-style ‘ribbon cutting’ ceremony marked the start of construction on the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior’s (CHBACI) next training house at 2197 Coldwater Drive in Juniper West.
The house will then be sold to the Kamloops Y to become the grand prize in next year’s Y Dream Home Lottery.
Thursday’s ceremony featured members of the CHBACI, Kamloops Y, and Thompson Rivers University trades students who build the frame and install electrical wiring over the next several months giving them hands on experience.
“This project allows us to be part of the community and also showcase the incredible talents in our local homebuilding industry,” incoming CHBACI president, Tom Calne, said, in a statement.
This is the 33rd year of the partnership between the CHBACI and TRU, and the 27th year of the partnership with the Kamloops Y.
“For us it is about enhancing the educational experience of our trades students by giving them on site experience in addition to classroom work,” TRU instructor, Tim Kasten, added.
The 2022 Y Dream Home at 362 Rue Cheval Noir in Tobino, valued at $1.2 million, was won by Marilyn and Brad Gerow. It is currently up for sale at $1.195 million.
