The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has lifted an evacuation alert for 55 properties that were put in place due to the Nohomin Creek wildfire near Lytton.
People in properties north and northwest of Lytton along Highway 12, as well as on the west side of the Fraser River and north of Stein River have been given the all clear, after spending the last week on an evacuation alert.
You’ll find a map of the affected properties here.
“Should conditions change, an Evacuation Alert and/or Evacuation Order will be reinstated as necessary,” the TNRD said.
An evacuation alert for properties on the Lytton First Nations remains in place.
Like the Watching Creek Fire near Kamloops, the B.C. Wildfire Service says the 3,700 hectare Nohomin Creek Wildfire, burning 1.7 kilometres northwest of Lytton, has diminished in activity given the ongoing cooler weather.
“There will continue to be active fire behaviour in the Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux Heritage Park,” the BCWS said. “In this area, the fire is burning on steep cliffs, and rocky terrain ground crews cannot access.”
“The fire’s south, northeast, and east flanks remain stable with no active fire behaviour.”
There are 55 firefighters and two helicopters currently battling the fire which broke out on July 14.
“The current precipitation and cooler temperatures will reduce fire behaviour over the next few days,” the BCWS added.
“However, temperatures are forecast to return to above seasonal this weekend and burning conditions will also return to what was experienced in late July.”
