Police have arrested one man and seized some weapons after local Mounties recovered a stolen van from Prince George along with several bicycles in Kamloops.
Police received a report just after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday of a suspicious van parked on the 1200-block of 13 Street in Kamloops.
While on scene, Constable Crystal Evelyn with the Kamloops RCMP says police checks confirmed the license plate belonged to a different vehicle.
“The person who reported the vehicle did so after viewing a social media post about a stolen motorbike, and believed the van to be related.”
Through the investigation, officers attended a home in the area, seizing seven bicycles, five of which have been identified as stolen through serial numbers and physical descriptors.
Police have confirmed the suspicious van was reported stolen in Prince George.
Evelyn adds the seizure of the bikes and van is a good example of the positive difference a community can have by being vigilant and reporting suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
“The report, coupled with the response of the attending officers, led to an investigation which saw stolen property returned to its rightful owners and dangerous weapons seized following the arrest of a man.
The man who was arrested was released on scene, pending the investigations conclusion.
Anyone with information of video footage believed to be related to this investigation, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
Local Mounties encourage residents to take photos of their bikes, record serial numbers, descriptions, and utilize programs such as 529 Garage, to help officers identify and return stolen property.
