New living space is expected to eventually open up for people living in the Valleyview area of Kamloops.
City Council has green-lit the start of a process to create a 50-unit apartment along the East TransCanada where the former Esso Gas station was located just west of Comazzetto Road.
Most of the apartments will be studios or one-bedrooms.
But there will be 7 two-bedroom units, and a 3 bedroom penthouse to potentially accommodate families, who the City’s Director of Development, Marvin Kwiatkowski suggests, could find homes there.
“Looking at a lot of commercial amenities in the nearby neighborhood. And then with Ralph Bell Elementary School opening up in the fall as well, that’s within walking distance.”
Kwiatkowski says the developer intends to make all the apartments rentals to begin with, but may strata-title the building in the future to make them available for sale.
The proposed complex will have ground-level parking under the building.
However, Kwiatkowski notes there are options for tenants who don’t drive.
“There are two transit stops very close. 165 meters and 190 meters on Valleyview Drive. There’s active transportation linkages as well.”
It’s not clear at this point how long it would take to have the complex built and ready for tenants, should the city give its final approvals.
A public hearing still has to be concluded before Kamloops City Council can give any final approvals.
