Kamloops RCMP are looking for information into the movements of a black Honda Civic that was found burning in Rayleigh early on Saturday morning.
The late 1990s two-door sedan was found around 2 a.m., Aug 27, a couple of hours after two men were shot inside a red Toyota Matrix at Ord Road and Singh Street.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead while the other man was taken to hospital in a stable condition. No names have been released, but police say the victim was well-known to them, and that his death is believed to have been targeted.
While the two incidents have all the signs of a gang-style killing, the motive of the drive-by shooting is still being investigated.
“At this time, it’s unknown if the two incidents are related,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Todd Wiebe of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit, said.
“We are turning to the public with hope that someone has information related to the movements of that black Honda Civic from the days and hours prior to its discovery in Rayleigh on Saturday morning.”
Wiebe says areas of particular interest include Ord Road and Singh Street, as well as the Rayleigh Frontage Road, between 9 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 2:30 a.m. on Aug 27.
“Maybe you noticed a vehicle matching the description speeding around your neighbourhood, maybe it was parked on your road and struck you as suspicious. Whatever it was that made an older model black Honda Civic sedan stick out in your mind recently, we want to hear from you,” he said.
If you saw something or have information about this vehicle, you’re asked to contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2022-30179.
