A Kamloops woman with a myriad of health problems is in a tough spot after having her mobility scooter stolen.
Born and raised in Kamloops, Tara Pryce, suffers from diabetes and like many diabetics, the condition has triggered many other issues.
At the beginning of COVID, however, things took a turn for the worse for her.
“My kidneys failed and because of the pandemic, I couldn’t see my doctor and video chats hadn’t been set up so I fell into a diabetic coma and then when I woke I was 250 lbs of edema water weight and they thought I had a brain injury and I had pretty much lost the ability to walk so I bought a used mobility scooter and that helped my get around.”
Within another year, Tara says things got even worse.
“I fell into another diabetic coma and I suffered a heart attack and right before that happened my bones, because I’m on dialyses now, they’re so week that my leg snapped in half and I had to have a bunch of metal put in my leg.”
“I live by myself far away from any bus stops so I just really, really needed it. And, I lost my job because of all this so I’m of disability, a fixed income but luckily, blessedly disability bought me a mobility scooter so I was able to start using at about three months ago, and it’s gone.”
She actually had a pair of the scooters, one of which she was about to sell to a man who had his scooter recently stolen.
“I was selling it and a man contacted me and he just had is mobility scooter stolen right outside of his place. He forgot something in his place and ran upstairs to get it and by the time he came back down it was gone.”
She says she couldn’t believe it when she discovered both of hers has been stolen.
“I just felt so dismayed because I’m pretty helpless without them and I can’t believe crime has gotten to the point where they would steal both of them and my cane that was on the one I use, they even took my cane.”
A friend of Tara’s has set up a go-fund-me page to help her by a new one but she’d rather have here old one back.
“Especially the black one because the the new one had a warranty on it while the old one didn’t but I just also kind of want these people caught.”
