The Portland Winterhawks kept their perfect record intact with a come from behind 5-4 shootout win over the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday.
The Blazers were up 4-1 early in the second period after a pair of goals from Matthew Seminoff and one each from Logan Stankoven and Caedan Bankier, before the undefeated Winterhawks fought back.
Seminoff and Portland’s Nicholas Johnson traded goals in the first period, before Stankoven and Semioff’s second of the night had the Blazers up 3-1 after 20 minutes.
Bankier made it 4-1 as the Blazers appeared to be cruising to a win, before a pair of goals from Robbie Fromm-Delorme – one shorthanded and one on the powerplay – inspired the Winterhawks comeback.
Kyle Chyzowski scored the tying goal late in the second before a scoreless third period and overtime sent the game to a shootout.
Stankoven was the only Blazers who scored in the shootout, with goals from James Stefan and Marcus Ngyuen giving Portland the extra point.
Dylan Ernst made 36 saves in a losing effort while Portland’s Dante Giannuzzi stopped 29 shots for his second win over Kamloops this season.
Next up for the Blazers is a home game against Brandon on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
