The incoming mayor in Merritt is questioning some aspects of the city’s four day work week pilot project, which is set to begin on November 22.
While saying he is in support of a four day work week, Mike Goetz stresses that his number one priority is ensuring there is to cut to services.
“I am a firm believer that City Hall should be never be closed on a work day, and if we go this route, Mondays it would be closed.”
As it stands, the first Monday that City Hall will be closed is November 21, with the public office open extended hours Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.
Goetz suggests an alternative could be to find ways of re-shuffling the days and hours some Merritt staff work.
“Now again, you are looking at a pilot project, there might be some people who would go four and four, and others stay on five and two, or on a flex situation,” he explained.
“But again its a pilot so we will have to see how it all goes.”
Additionally, having worked a four day work week with a past job, Goetz explains it is something he enjoyed.
“It gave me more time with my family, it gave me more time to do some of the things we wanted to do but again this will be a pilot project because there are some aspects.”
A review of the pilot will take place at the six month mark to gauge its effectiveness and identify areas where changes may be needed.
