Friends and family of Shannon White will commemorate the one-year anniversary of her disappearance with a memorial ride from Kelowna to Kamloops this evening.
They’ll gather at Capri Mall in Kelowna and head to Kamloops around 4 p.m. with plans to stop at the Petro Canada on Versatile Drive around 6:30 p.m. before driving through town towards the Lac du Bois OHV Trails near Batchelor Heights.
“Shannon’s dad and I will be there to gather those that would like to join,” organizer Angela Hulsman said, in a post on facebook. “Everyone is welcome. We are there to [honour] Shannon and show our love and support in bringing her home.”
Shannon White was last seen leaving her Bestwick Court home in Lower Sahali on Nov. 1 last year. She was presumably heading to her job at Kamloops Hyundai about two kilometres away, though she never made it there.
Her black 1997 Jeep TJ was found abandoned in the 200-block of Nicola Street downtown the next afternoon, Nov. 2.
“Waking up this morning has proven to be very difficult. It is hard to accept that it has been one year since we were told you did not make it to work and we knew something was wrong,” Hulsman added.
“One year ago we started the search. One year ago a piece of our lives went missing. One year ago Buddy lost his mom, his best friend his world.”
The RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit has been investigating since Nov. 4 of last year.
“Shannon White is the one that I think bothers me the most to this date,” Syd Lecky, the former officer in charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, told City Council during his final meeting on Oct. 18.
“We are still working on that investigation but I wish I could give her family the piece of mind to know that we were able to bring her home to them.”
In early September, Kamloops Mounties said they believe that White had been the victim of foul play.
“Our missing person file of Ms. Shannon White continues to be a priority,” current detachment commander, Jeff Pelley, told the city’s community services committee meeting.
“We are continued on a number of taskings and high risk priority tasks with this investigation [and] searching several areas you may have seen on social media.”
On the day White disappeared, Mounties say her Jeep was spotted shortly after she was expected to have arrived at work around 8:30 a.m.
They also said there was a 45-minute period on Nov. 1, 2021, where the Jeep was seen on Highway 1, west of Kamloops, and that it was also seen heading north on Highway 5 past Rayleigh around 5:30 p.m. that same evening, before returning back to town about 45 minutes later.
There have been numerous searches for Shannon White in the wilderness west of Kamloops, off Highway 1, and north of the city off Highway 5, including in the Heffley Creek area.
Police also had a presence in the Silver Sage Trailer Park for about a week searching the travel trailer of White’s ex-boyfriend. To date though, no charges have been laid in connection with White’s disappearance.
“It’s like we’re stuck in a horrible movie that we didn’t want to be in,” White’s former landlord, Matt Hatch, told NL News last November.
Shannon White stands five-foot-five with blonde hair, green eyes, and fair skin. Mounties say she has a Medusa lip piercing and a tongue piercing as well as several large arm tattoos, including a portrait of her dog, Buddy, and she’s known to wear glasses at times.
“On this anniversary I ask that if anyone has the information that could lead to closure please please for the sake of those that love Shannon Doh White, call the RCMP so that we can heal,” Hulsman said. “I miss you every day and that will never go away. Love and miss you.”
Anybody with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
