It seems as though, despite the occasional “pop” heard in different parts of the city, most in Kamloops played by the rules last night when it comes to fireworks on Halloween.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Ken Uzeloc says there were no calls for fires and no official complaints made last night.
“I am happy things went safely; Kamloopsians appeared to have followed the rules and did not use fireworks. Our crews had no investigation calls to go and investigate complaints of it and there were no fires, so we were pretty happy with that.”
This runs counter to what was seen in the Lower Mainland, where several firework-related fires were reported.
However, Uzeloc suggests those who might be hoarding fireworks for their own show later this week – don’t do it.
“We have had high winds and the fire danger is still high; if we get some significant moisture, we will look at removing the fire ban that currently exists.”
Uzeloc says they are keeping a close watch on the amount of precipitation the city will be in store for this week.
“If we get a bunch of precipitation and we feel it’s really being absorbed into the ground and not just on top and the wind is drying it out, we will look to pull it as soon as possible.”
Uzeloc suggests this could be in around a week or so.
