A short-lived work stoppage at Highland Valley Copper near Logan Lake is now over.
While the United Steelworkers hasn’t officially made any comment, union sources say the workers went back on the job last night.
This follows a move by the union to implement what’s described as a “safety stand down.”
It follows concerns about a piece of heavy machinery, known as a Bucyrus, which is said to have collapsed during maintenance earlier in the week.
A Bucyrus is a massive scoop shovel used to load trucks at the site.
While there’s no official word on injuries due to the incident, it’s believed no one was hurt.
Teck Resources – which operates Highland Valley – has issued a short statement, confirming the return to full operations.
“The health and safety of workers is our first priority, and we are working with employees to continue to strengthen safety performance,” said Teck in its brief statement to Radio NL.
