A Christmas tradition many seniors in Kamloops look forward to is returning to the city after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The City of Kamloops is bringing its 46th annual Seniors Light Tour back to the community on December 8.
Tournament Capital and Events Coordinator Chelsea Fortin says volunteers will take Kamloopsians over the age of 55 around the City to look at the best Christmas light displays.
“The buses will go all over the city of Kamloops including the North Shore and out to Rayleigh as well to pick up our seniors and take them on a tour of the winter Christmas lights around.”
Fortin says residents along the route are encouraged to light up their homes and yards to help create a magical experience for seniors.
“We promote that ought to our community to deck out your houses get in that holiday cheer, so we can really brighten up the evening for the seniors.”
After the tour, there is a tea service and sing-a-long at the Sandman Centre.
“Christmas lights, Carol’s Christmas goodies. It’s just it’s going to be a great time and of course after the events over at the Sandman Center, that the seniors are driven home as well so they get to see all the lights have a nice social and then they’re taken home safely by our volunteer bus drivers.”
The Seniors Light Tour will take place on Thursday December 8 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
While the event is free, Fortin says registration is required either online or over the phone 250-828-3500 before December 1.
Additionally, for homeowners wanting to add their lit up house to the map, or if anyone wants to volunteer, they are asked to contact ctekonomy@kamloops.ca
“We do have a standard route that we are following but if there’s anybody that has a spectacular display, down on a side street, we are more than happy to have the buses detour down,” added Fortin.
Participants who require handyDART are encouraged to register for the service after they have registered for the lights tour with the City. To schedule a handyDART seat for the evening, phone BC Transit at 250-376-7525.
