An arrest has been made in the ongoing violence which has been engulfing Merritt for over the past week.
Merritt RCMP say a wanted man, identified as Ronald Karlson, was seen lurking around a home in the area of Voght Street and Priest Avenue around 1:30am.
When they showed up, the Mounties say they saw Karlson allegedly kicking in the back door of the home and rush inside.
Those inside the house were eventually evacuated by police while the Emergency Response Teams were brought in.
After a long standoff, the RCMP say Karlson eventually turned himself over to the police.
No word on a motivation for the incident at this point.
Karlson became the subject of a police notification last week for breaching his release orders.
“We want to thank the public for all the information they provided during our search for Mr. Karlson.” Says Sgt. Josh Roda. “We are thankful no one was injured and this had a successful conclusion.”
Merritt RCMP say Ronald Karlson will be before the courts this Wednesday.
This is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Merritt over the past week, in which three people were arrested for an alleged kidnapping, while at least four homes were shot up in a series of shootings last week.
