Despite turning aside 38 shots, Dylan Ernst’s starting winning streak has come to an end at 14 games, following a tough, 3-2 overtime loss to the Everett Silvertips on Wednesday night at the Sandman Center.
The Blazers, depleted by the World Juniors and injuries up-front, struggled with the offense, and to stay out of the penalty box.
Down five of their regular forwards, including Logan Stankoven and Caedan Bankier, who had just helped push team Canada into the Gold Medal final at the World Juniors in Halifax just minutes before the start of the game, the Blazers wouldn’t get on the score sheet until the 2nd period after giving up a 1st period power play goal.
Kaden Hammell scored his 5th of the season to knot the score at 1-1 with less to four minutes to go in the 2nd.
However, Everett would respond with one of their own less than a minute later to take a 2-1 lead into the 3rd.
Kamloops would tie it up early in the 3rd on Ryan Michael’s first-ever WHL goal less than a minute into the 3rd.
The score would stay tied at 2 through the rest of the 3rd.
However, Drew Englot was hit with a questionable interference call with just 4-seconds to go in the 3rd, giving Everett the power play heading into overtime.
The Silvertips would score on the 4-on-3 to salt away the victory, despite Dylan Ernst turning aside 38 of the 41 shots he faced.
You don't like losing in OT… on the PP, but to get a point out of this one tonight is fortunate. 3-2F
