Matthew Kieper has been named the WHL goaltender of the week for the first time in his career.
The 19-year-old Kamloops Blazers goaltender stopped 53 of 54 shots he faced in a pair of wins, giving him a 0.50 goals-against average and a .981 save percentage for the week ending March 12, 2023.
He made 28 saves in a 7-1 win in Everett on his 19th birthday Wednesday night and followed that up with a 25 save shutout against Vancouver at Sandman Centre on Saturday.
Kieper has yet to lose a start for the Blazers since he was acquired in a trade with the Regina Pats in January.
The Winnipeg native is 7-1 with the Blazers with his only loss coming in relief in the 7-3 loss in Medicine Hat on Feb. 25. In nine games with the Blazers, Kieper has 2.58 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
Over 64 career WHL games split between Regina and Kamloops, Kieper has a 30-23-1-2 record, a 3.70 goals-against average, an .879 save percentage, and two shutouts.
