Connor Levis scored early but the Kamloops Blazered surrendered six unanswered goals in a 7-2 loss to the Prince George Cougars Friday night.
Levis scored less than two minutes into the first period before goals from Cayden Glover, Carlin Dezainde, and Caden Brown had the Cougars up 3-1 after 20 minutes.
Second period goals from Koehn Ziemmer and Blake Eastman and a third period goal from Zac Funk had the Cougars up 6-1 before Caedan Bankier gave the home fans something to cheer about on fan appreciation night at the Sandman Centre.
Arjun Bawa – son of former Blazers forward, Robin Bawa – closed out the scoring for Prince George with about four minutes left to play, ending the Blazers 12 game winning streak at home.
Dylan Ernst made 30 saves on 37 shots in a losing effort. Ty Young turned aside 33 of 35 shots to earn the win in net for the Cougars.
The two teams will rematch in Prince George Saturday to close out the regular season.
Ahead of the game, the Blazers handed out their 2022-23 awards. Logan Stankoven and Olen Zellweger were named co-MVPs while Zellweger was named top defenceman.
