Logan Stankoven and defenceman Olen Zellweger have been named to the B.C. Division’s First All-Star Team for the 2022-23 WHL season.
The two Kamloops Blazers teammates will be joined by Vancouver Giants goaltender Jesper Vikman, Prince George Cougars defenceman Ethan Samson, and forwards Andrew Cristall of the Kelowna Rockets and the Cougars’ Chase Wheatcroft.
Stankoven, the reigning CHL Player of the Year, led the Blazers in scoring with 97 points (34 goals and 63 assists) in 48 games, good for fourth in the WHL. The Blazers captain leads the team in points with 260 (115 goals and 145 assists) in 180 games.
A Dallas Stars prospect, Stankoven was helped Team Canada win gold at the 2023 World Juniors.
Zellweger, who joined the Blazers in a blockbuster trade with Everett in January, was second among WHL defenceman in scoring with 80 points in 55 games. The Anaheim Ducks prospect led all defenceman in goals this season at 32 – 22 of which were as a Blazer – making him the first blueliner to hit the 30 goal mark in six seasons.
The reigning WHL Defencemen of the Year, Zellweger was also part of Team Canada’s World Junior gold medal winning team.
Four other Blazers – goaltender Dylan Ernst, defenceman Kyle Masters, and forwards Caedan Bankier and Matthew Seminoff – were also named to the B.C. Division’s Second All-Star Team Tuesday.
