Four Kamloops Blazers have made the B.C. Division’s Second All-Star Team for the 2022-23 WHL season.
Goaltender Dylan Ernst, defenceman Kyle Masters, and forwards Caedan Bankier and Matthew Seminoff were named to the team that is voted upon by WHL General Managers.
The quartet will be joined by defenceman Hudson Thornton and forward Riley Heidt, both of the Prince George Cougars.
Ernst led all WHL goaltenders with 38 wins this season. He finished with a 2.69 goals-against average, a .906 save percentage and two shutouts in 53 games. In 82 career WHL games with the Blazers, Ernst has a 55-19-4-1 record to go along with a 2.78 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and four shutouts.
The 19-year-old, who is eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft, enjoyed a stretch of 16 consecutive appearances without a regulation loss, a span which ran from Nov. 9 through to Dec. 30.
Masters is coming off a career year in Kamloops since his trade from Red Deer. The 19-year-old finished the regular season with 65 points (11 goals and 54 assists), tied for seventh in scoring among WHL defencemen.
In 175 career WHL games, Masters has 92 points (16 goals and 76 assists), and signed an NHL entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild earlier this month.
Bankier also signed an NHL entry level contract with the Minnesota Wild this month after setting career highs in goals (37), assists (48), points (85), and power-play goals (12) this season.
A member of Canada’s 2023 World Junior gold medal-winning team, Bankier also led all Blazers with seven game-winning goals this season. In 202 career WHL games, Bankier has 188 points (76 goals and 112 assists) and is the team leader in number of games played.
Seminoff was third among Blazers skaters in season scoring with 82 points (31 goals and 51 assists) in 62 games, all of which were career highs. A prospect of the Dallas Stars, Seminoff also surpassed the point-per-game mark for the first time in his WHL career.
In 196 career WHL games, Seminoff has 170 points to his name, and is coming off an eight point game against the Victoria Royals on March 15.
Two other Blazers – Logan Stankoven and Olen Zellweger – were named to the B.C. Division’s First All-Star Team Tuesday, while Kamloops native Mathew Ward, a member of the Swift Current Broncos, made the Central Division Second All-Star Team.
