Logan Stankoven is looking to become the first player to win back-to-back WHL Player of the Year awards in over 30 years.
The Blazers captain, who is the reigning CHL Player of the Year, has been nominated for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the 2022-23 WHL Player of the Year.
Stankoven led the Blazers to their fourth consecutive B.C. Division title en route to finishing fourth in WHL scoring with 97 points (34 goals and 63 assists) despite playing in only 48 regular season games.
In 180 career WHL regular season games with the Blazers, Stankoven has 260 points (115 goals and 145 assists) to his name.
The Dallas Stars prospect also helped Canada win gold at the 2023 World Juniors alongside teammates Caedan Bankier and Olen Zellweger.
The 20-year-old Stankoven was one of only two players to average more than two points a game while playing at least 40 regular season games. Regina Pats forward Connor Bedard, who was also nominated for the WHL Player of the Year award, the other.
Both Stankoven and Bedard amassed 35-game point streaks in the regular season. Bedard put up 90 points (44 goals and 46 assists) during his streak that lasted from Sept. 24, 2022 to Feb. 1, 2023, while Stankoven amassed 79 points (27 goals and 52 assists) during his streak between Oct. 14, 2022 and Feb. 17, 2023.
Also up for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy which will be handed out on May 10, is Red Deer Rebels forward Kai Uchacz and Everett Silvertips forward Jackson Berezowski.
Blazers forward Rob Brown and NHL Hall of Famer, Joe Sakic, were the last players to win back to back WHL Player of the Year awards. Brown won the award in 1985-86 and in 1986-87, while Sakic won it in 1986-87 and 1987-88 as a member of the Swift Current Broncos.
