The Kamloops-Thompson School District says Station One Architects will officially design the new 485-seat elementary school in Pineview Valley.
Construction on the new K-to-7 school is set to get underway next year, after the B.C. government announced in February that it is earmarking $65.3 million for the long-awaited school in Kamloops.
Chilliwack-based Station One was behind the design of the Valleyview Secondary expansion as well as the new Parkcrest Elementary School, which is under construction.
The two organizations had already been working on the new school for some time, with Station One submitting a preliminary plan to city council last year.
“We have had positive experiences working with Station One Architects on capital projects,” SD73 Director of Facilities, Art McDonald, said, in a news release.
Added Justin Dyck, Principle Partner from Station One, “we have had a wonderful experience working with the Kamloops School District staff, educators and the broader community on the Valleyview Secondary Addition and the Parkcrest Elementary School and look forward to pushing the envelope further on Pineview Elementary.”
“The unique contours of the sloping site along with exciting provincial initiatives like enhanced greenhouse gas reduction, incorporation of mass timber and new 21st century learning design features will surely result and a unique design serving Kamloops students and the local community.”
The new Pineview Valley school will include a neighborhood learning centre, which SD73 says will be used for programs and services, including child care, to benefit the broader community.
The school district has also set up the Pineview Valley Community Engagement Committee to help shape the design of school. It will be comprised of community members, district and school staff, parents, and community partners who will provide feedback to the School District.
“We have been working closely with the McGowan Park staff and parents to manage these burgeoning space pressures,” SD73 Board Chair, Heather Grieve, added. “We are relieved to have received a funding announcement and excited to establish the Pineview Valley Community Engagement Committee.”
The new Pineview Valley Elementary School is set to open in the summer of 2026.
