Mark your calendars Kamloops as the ever-popular BC Lions FanFest will take place at Hillside Stadium in exactly one month, on May 20.
It will take place on the Saturday of the May long weekend between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., featuring food trucks, beverages for fans of all ages as well as activities for kids and – of course – football.
“FanFest is a signature event for our entire club as we get ready to kick off another big season,” Lions VP of business George Chayka said, in a news release.
“In addition to thanking our great partners who make it possible for us to host a great afternoon for the community, we are thrilled to be welcoming our great Lions fans not only in Kamloops but from other regions of the province. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the start of another exciting season of BC Lions football.”
The Lions say fans in Kamloops and area will be able to take in a live scrimmage that day. It will be followed by a 30-minute player autograph session at 4:00 p.m., followed by an hour-long Play with the Pros clinic for kids aged 6 to 13 that gets going at 4:30 p.m.
“Basically, it’s a non-contact football skills clinic that is kind of set up with a bunch of stations and there is a time limit for each station,” Lions Communications Manager, Matt Baker, said on NL Newsday. “Each station has a different Lions player.
“It is just designed to give some young kings to not only meet and work with some players, but to learn some fun skills.”
You can register for the Play with the Pros clinic here.
The Lions will play a pair of preseason games – in Saskatchewan against the Roughriders on May 27, and against the Calgary Stampeders at BC Place Stadium on June 1.
Their regular season kicks off on June 8 in Calgary.
