Crews in the Village of Cache Creek are installing flood protection measures along Quartz Road today, April 27, with water levels expected to rise in the coming days.
The Village also says Quartz Road between Stage Road and Highway 1 – in front of the Cache Creek Fire Hall – has been closed to allow the work to take place.
“Based on a review of data from the River Forecast Centre and the increases in water levels observed overnight, village crews have closed Quartz Road where it meets Highway 1 today to install flood protection devices,” the village said.
“Other routes will remain open.”
Just yesterday, people in Cache Creek were being told to avoid river banks amid high streamflow advisory put in place by the BC River Forecast Centre.
“While the creek is currently still low, we expect this to change with the warmer weather predicted over the next [five] days,” the Village said Wednesday. “We have been in hazard preparedness workshops in recent weeks, in contact with other government agencies discussing concerns, and have made provisions for mitigation measures if necessary.”
“As more updates become available, we will post them via Facebook and VoyentAlert!” the statement said.
