UPDATE 5:30 p.m. – No injuries have been reported after a two-alarm house fire in Sahali that broke out Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 318 Gleneagles Drive, near Orion Heights, just after 2 p.m., April 27.
Pictures from the scene showed the roof of the house fully engulfed in flames, leading to a plume of black smoke that can be seen from parts of the City.
A row of cedars beside the house was completely burned while at least a part of the roof appeared to have collapsed owing to the fire damage.
“We hear it all the time. My cedars are well looked after, and I’m not going to give up my privacy by getting rid of them,” KFR said in a social media post that showed some of the aftermath of the fire. “Do you see a lot of privacy remaining for anyone living in this home? Are your cedars threatening your safety, and your neighbours?”
“In this particular instance, the neighbouring building was far enough away to only sustain some damage. In many neighbourhoods in Kamloops, this same scenario would have destroyed two homes instead of just one.”
It is not the first time Kamloops Fire and Rescue has warned people about the dangers of cedars.
A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, with more information expected either later today or tomorrow, Friday.
This is the second time in just over a week were firefighters had to act fast in a heavily-populated area of Kamloops. Crews were called to a suspicious fire in Strathcona Park last Wednesday, April 19, that threatened several homes in the West End.
Kamloops Mounties are still investigating that blaze, which they say was sparked by a campfire
We hear it all the time.
