With warm weather on the horizon, the District of Barriere will bring in a total fire ban as of Monday, May 15.
The District is also banning all Category 2 and 3 open fires – essentially anything larger than a campfire – as of today, May 11.
“[The bans are] to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety,” the Barriere Fire Department said, in a statement.
The bans do no apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane, or charcoal briquettes.
There is no estimated date as to when the fire bans in Barriere will be lifted.
There are no current provincial bans or restrictions across the Kamloops Fire Centre, though Category 2 and 3 fires are prohibited across the Cariboo Fire Centre.
