Fire investigators and the RCMP are looking for a pair of fire bugs after several dumpsters were set on fire in downtown Kamloops last evening.
A total of five dumpsters were lit up one after the other starting around 10:45 p.m. Monday night.
KFR Acting Platoon Captain Jeff Freeze telling RadioNL there was a witness.
“Witness stated that there were two individuals wearing all black running around from dumpster to dumpster setting them on fire,” said Freeze.
Unfortunately, he says they weren’t able to make a positive ID.
“The person that potentially saw them couldn’t even say of they were male or female, but dressed all in black,” added Freeze, noting firefighters were able to knock the fires down quickly with no other damage other than to the dumpsters themselves.
He says there was one that had the potential to cause major damage to a popular downtown eatery at Victoria and Sixth if not for the quick thinking of a Good Samaritan.
“Frick and Frack, the one that was set ablaze was very close to the building and if it wasn’t for a passerby that alerted the business, actually they both pulled it away from the structure, it probably would have been very serious,” cautioned Freeze.
If you have any information about the identity of the suspects, he says to contact the Kamloops RCMP.
