It is the last thing the BC Lions wanted to see during training camp in Kamloops.
A haze of smoke has taken over the city, forcing the team to move day four of practice – which was scheduled to take place between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. – indoors.
“Due to air quality today’s practice is moved to inside the Tournament Capital Centre,” the Lions said, in a tweet Wednesday. “Media can check in at the field with Lions communications staff. Fans will not be permitted.”
With smoke expected to linger for the next 24 to 48 hours, it is not clear what the plan is for the rest of the week. The Leos are currently scheduled to practice from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to Noon on Friday.
Lions training camp is set to run through to May 30 with the ever popular FanFest set to take place at Hillside Stadium this Saturday, May 20.
The Lions have been coming to Kamloops for training camp since 2010.
Its not the first time wildfire smoke has played havoc during their time in Kamloops, as the Lions were forced to cut their 2021 training camp short due to smoky skies that year.
