Toys”R”Us is returning to Kamloops this summer a little over a year after it shut down.
The new 25,000-square-foot store will be located in the former Bed Bath & Beyond store in the Columbia Square Shopping Centre in Sahali.
“The acquisition of the majority of Canadian Bed Bath & Beyond locations gave us the opportunity to open Toys”R”Us stores in new neighbourhoods across the country,” Doug Putman, of Putman Investments, said in a news release Wednesday.
Putman is the owner of Toys”R”Us Canada, and of music retailer Sunrise Records, which has a location at Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops.
The new Kamloops location is among 11 Bed Bath & Beyond stores that will become Toys”R”Us stores – taking the total in Canada to 107.
Burnaby and Victoria are the other new locations in British Columbia. Four other stores will be in Alberta – two each in Edmonton and Calgary – with two in Ontario – Nepean and Toronto – and one each in Quebec (Lanaudière) and Nova Scotia (Halifax).
“Our new locations will have an elevated in-store experience with bigger retail shops from our vendor partners,” Putman added.
The former Kamloops Toys”R”Us location, which closed in early 2022, is being renovated into the new location for Nature’s Fare. It is also set to open sometime this year.
The company says it is looking to hire 30 to 40 new employees at each of its new locations. Interested candidates are being told to online.
