Kamloops Councillor Nancy Bepple is eyeing a seat on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors.
The third term City Councillor told her colleagues at the May 9 meeting of her intentions to seek a seat around the table.
“I have done that in the past. I wasn’t successful but in the end, I was appointed to FCM committee,” Bepple said. “In either case, it’s a requirement to get the support of council.”
Bepple served two terms on City Council (2009-2014) before she was re-elected last fall to her third term. She served as an FCM committee member between 2012 and 2014.
“During that time, she learned firsthand of the value of local governments across Canada collaborating with each other to find solutions, especially with issues that include the Federal government such as housing supply, infrastructure, and renewal of the federal government funding programs such as the Canada Community Building Fund,” a biography on the FCM website said.
Councillor Mike O’Reilly said he felt Bepple would do a “fantastic job” representing the City on the FCM board.
“Whether you get on as a director or an appointment to a committee and leading the City of Kamloops in what we require for our city and what we’re looking for,” O’Reilly said. “I really hope you’re successful and I wish you the best of luck.”
Former Councillor Arjun Singh was the City’s most recent representative on the FCM Board of Directors.
The FCM’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on May 28.
